FSH and LH play an important role in the development of follicles (eggs) produced by the ovaries in women. Menotropin is used to help your body produce multiple eggs during ovulation, in preparation for in vitro fertilization. This is a fertility drug that is injected subcutaneously or intramuscularly. As a combination medication, menotropins bind to the follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) receptor, resulting in ovulation in the absence of sufficient endogenous luteinizing hormone (LH). They also bind to the LH receptor, which stimulates the release of the correct hormone. The drug contains both FSH and LH, so it induces the growth and development of ovarian follicles as well as the production of gonadal steroids in women who do not suffer from ovarian failure. FSH is the primary driver of follicle recruitment and growth during early folliculogenesis, while LH is important for ovarian steroidogenesis and mediates the physiological events leading to the development of a competent preovulatory follicle.
